Coming of Age Ceremonies

Certain cultures and religions acknowledge and recognize a variety of milestones in the lives of children and youth. However, for the many people who are not immersed in these cultures and religions, amazingly, there are no formal rituals for young people until high-school graduation.

Yet there are key moments in a child's development that mark significant changes, inviting us to re-examine and reorganize how we relate to these growing beings. Listed below are noted times of transition, all of which provide rich opportunities for both parents and children to honor and celebrate the age that has passed, as well as clarify and look ahead to what gifts and opportunities the next stage of development will have to offer.
